The Magic Behind the Perfect Unison
My unique approach to piano technology began at age twelve when I first picked up the viola. Developing a keen ear for intonation allowed me to master the art of tuning perfect fifths and identifying concert pitch A440 by ear. As a lifelong pianist, I was always struck by the subtle tonal differences between the two instruments—a curiosity that eventually led me to explore the intricate science of keyboard temperaments.
While a viola permits pure fifths, the physics of a piano requires them to be tempered slightly narrow to facilitate all keys. Understanding why an octave carries overtones or why a single note might exhibit a peculiar wobble sparked my passion for technical study. I sought to understand these acoustic phenomena deeply, transitioning from a puzzled performer to a dedicated technician.
Under the guidance of my mentor, I have integrated my background in performance and theory with professional tuning expertise to offer a comprehensive perspective on instrument care. These decades spend mastering both the viola and piano have refined my auditory awareness to a professional standard.
